The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Chief Software Architect to join the Model-Based Software/team located in Berkeley, MO. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.
As a Chief Software Architect, you will play a critical role in shaping the companys product architecture. This is an exciting opportunity to work on multiple aspects of the business, including Backend Architecture, Front-End Architecture, and Large-Scale Software System Architecture.

Position Responsibilities:
- Oversees the architecture, design, development, analyses, and maintenance of large scale software systems that meet industry, customer and quality.
- Partners with appropriate stakeholders to inform system definition and oversees translation of system-level requirements into software requirements and models that meet customer, operational and performance requirements and have clear traceability to design, code and test artifacts.
- Oversees code reviews to ensure alignment to requirements and standards.
- Oversees monitoring and reviewing test completion, verification processes and issue resolution for software systems.
- Oversees review of product and process for alignment with project plans and industry standards by consulting on tracking and evaluation of internal team and supplier performance.
- Researches and oversees implementation of current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and changes in regulations relevant to software development.
- Oversees software project management and software supplier management activities.
- Provide comprehensive technical oversight for different systems, guiding teams in designing and operating production-ready systems.
- Engage in architectural discussions, influence the roadmap, and take ownership of key projects and initiatives.
- Resolving complex technical issues and driving innovations that improve system availability, resilience, and performance.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and seek innovative solutions to address existing and new challenges.
- Mentor and develop engineers across all levels through sharing and learning.
- Ability to take projects from beginning to end with little direct supervision.
- Teamwork and coordination skills with ability to create clarity from ambiguity.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
- Ability to obtain a Top Secret US Security clearance (Post-Start).
- 8+ years of experience in large-scale software system architecture, design, and development of distributed/on-premises end-to-end scalable software.
- 10+ years of software development experience.
- Proven understanding of microservices, client-server architecture, event-driven architecture, domain-driven design (DDD), and other modern architectural styles to build robust and adaptable systems.
- 5 years of experience with databases (SQL and NoSQL), caching strategies, and data pipelines.
- Strong experience with programming languages such as Go, Node.js, Java, or Python.
- Familiarity with the Agile software development process.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
- Cloud integration experience.
- Real-world experience working with large datasets and NoSQL database technologies.
- Ability to evaluate trade-offs in architectural decisions, balancing scalability, cost, and complexity.
- Experience developing RESTful APIs for complex datasets.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with teams of varied strengths.
- Experience leading architecture and technical development for digital teams with large-scale and high volume web-based transactional systems.
- Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.
- Knowledge of how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
- Knowledge of software development processes in compliance with established internal and industry standards, guidelines, and best practices in the development, testing, and deployment of software.
- Knowledge of implementation, validation, and verification processes, practices, and guidelines to ensure software development quality, performance, and safety.
- Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.
