Robotics Installer
Compensation: $24-28/hr
Location: Fort Walton Beach
Hours: 7 am - 5 pm (working Mon - Friday)
Summary
The Ground Robotics Installer is responsible for integrating electromechanical control systems, sensors, and associated cabling into a wide range of ground vehicles—including medium and heavy‑duty trucks, utility vehicles, and Class 8 tractor trailers—at Micro Systems facilities or customer sites. This role supports the conversion of conventional vehicles into unmanned, leader‑follower, and remotely operated platforms by applying disciplined installation practices, rigorous safety procedures, and hands‑on fabrication skills.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)- Install & integrate vehicle control modules, actuators, sensors, antennas, and harnessing into commercial and specialty ground vehicles.
- Convert vehicles to unmanned, leader‑follower, and remote operations platforms per engineering drawings, work instructions, and installation standards.
- Fabricate custom solutions (brackets, mounts, enclosures, panels) to fit unique vehicle geometries; modify sheet metal and plastics as needed.
- Build/route wiring for 12V/24V power, signal, and communications; terminate, crimp, solder, heat‑shrink, loom, and label harnesses for clean, reliable installs.
- Integrate power distribution (breakers/fusing/relays) and ensure proper grounding, EMI/RFI mitigation, and strain relief to meet reliability standards.
- Perform system bring‑up with engineering: continuity checks, polarity/voltage verification, sensor alignment, calibration assistance, basic functional tests.
- Diagnose and resolve installation issues; escalate design concerns; provide feedback to improve installation methods and design for serviceability.
- Document work (as‑built photos, wiring updates, redlines) and follow safety, quality, and configuration control procedures.
- Travel to customer sites for onsite installs, retrofits, and field support as required.
Minimum Qualifications- 3+ years in custom automotive electronics integration or similar (upfit, specialty vehicle, defense, motorsports, fleet telematics).
- Hands‑on experience with 12V/24V systems, power distribution, relays, fusing, and harness building/looming.
- Proficiency with crimping, soldering, heat‑shrink, wire routing, strain relief, and labeling to professional standards.
- Mechanical aptitude with basic fabrication (drilling, tapping, cutting, bending, mounting) and safe tool use.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, pinouts, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
- Strong problem‑solving mindset; comfortable creating one‑off solutions in constrained spaces.
- Willingness to travel and work in shop, yard, or field environments (indoor/outdoor).
- Valid driver’s license; ability to lift 50 lbs and work on/under vehicles safely.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of FORT WALTON BEACH, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $16.00 - $21.00/hr.
