Job Title: CNC Machinist
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our machining department as the lead programmer and technical resource. This role is pivotal in developing CNC programs, selecting tooling, and establishing machining strategies to ensure high-quality production of precision aerospace components.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead programmer and technical resource for the machining department.
- Develop CNC programs from 3D models using CAM software, with a preference for Mastercam.
- Select tooling, define machining strategies, establish work coordinates, and create setup documentation.
- Lead and support first article development, prove-outs, and production release.
- Troubleshoot machining processes, including chip control, chatter, tool life, and cycle time optimization.
- Oversee and assist with machine setups and changeovers across the shop.
- Provide technical support to operators and setters to ensure quality and support in-process and final inspection of precision aerospace components.
- Upload/download programs using DNC systems and maintain revision control.
- Ensure compliance with all quality standards and documentation requirements.
- Support material handling activities, including staging raw material, moving work-in-process (WIP), and transferring finished goods between operations.
- Coordinate with tool room, inspection, and production control to ensure material availability and flow for scheduled work.
- Assist in loading/unloading bar feeders, material racks, and machine staging areas.
- Ensure proper identification, traceability, and handling of aerospace materials throughout the process.
- Support general shop organization and cleanliness to maintain safe and efficient workflow.
- Act as the lead on the floor and help coordinate daily production activities.
- Assist in prioritizing work, organizing schedules, and ensuring machines are properly staffed and running.
- Step in to support or direct shop activities in the absence of the Machining Supervisor.
- Help train and mentor operators, setters, and junior programmers.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, cycle time reduction, and cost savings.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the machining department.
Essential Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 7+ years of CNC machining experience required.
- 3+ years of experience with Swiss lathes (Tornos), CNC lathes, and/or EDM preferred.
- Proven experience in developing new parts from print/model through production.
- Strong experience with CAM software, preferably Mastercam.
- Experience with aerospace materials such as Inconel, Haynes, and stainless alloys strongly preferred.
- Experience in precision inspection and quality standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- CNC certificate or technical training preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience.

Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 5 am to 2:30 pm, with Saturdays as needed. The team currently consists of 8 full-time and 3 part-time members. The position is based in an aerospace manufacturing facility, which also functions as a repair station and is likely to join an FAA DOT program.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $75000.00/yr.
